Expansion for Hart Biologicals Ltd.

31 March 2015

Hart Expansion

Hart Biologicals, which manufactures specialist medical devices to investigate the blood clotting function in patients, will create 13 new jobs – including Research and Development (R&D) scientists - as part of its expansion plans at Hartlepool’s Rivergreen Business Centre within Queens Meadow Business Park.

It brings the total number of jobs being created at Queens Meadow to over 150 since it was granted Enterprise Zone status over two years ago.

The award-winning firm has taken over a 6,500 sq ft unit adjacent to its headquarters which will house its (R&D) team.

Alby Pattison, Managing Director of Hart Biologicals, says the expansion is in line with the development of partner organisations his team work alongside.

He said: “Other businesses are growing, and we need to make sure we grow with them.

“This expansion is in response to demands, and we are delighted to have been able to take over the unit next door to our base.

“The current site will be our manufacturing hub, and we have reconfigured it all to house the R&D team next door.”

Councillor Robbie Payne, chair of Hartlepool Council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “Hart Biologicals has gone from strength to strength since it was formed in Hartlepool in 2003.

“The Enterprise Zones offer tremendous incentives to companies and I’m delighted that Hart Biologicals is expanding in Hartlepool and creating an extra 13 jobs on top of the 23existing jobs.”

Stephen Catchpole, Managing Director at Tees Valley Unlimited, the local Enterprise Partnership for Tees Valley, added: “The expansion by Hart Biologicals demonstrates how the Tees Valley Enterprise Zone is succeeding in delivering growth and jobs.

“Queens Meadow is a key piece of the jigsaw to improve the economy in Hartlepool and it is very pleasing to see that many companies have benefited from the Enterprise Zone framework.”

Peter Candler, Managing Director of Rivergreen Developments plc, who owns the units occupied by Hart Biologicals, commented: “The Rivergreen Business Centre at Queens Meadow was conceived as a high quality development that would provide first class workspace for ambitious and forward thinking companies – Hart Biologicals fits this profile perfectly and we are delighted that they have expanded and taken on an additional unit for their R&D work.”

Since the company was formed in 2003 it has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most highly-rated operations of its kind in the UK. It exports products to many counties around the world and its main end-users are hospitals, GP surgeries and pharmacies.

As well as assistance from Hartlepool Council and Tees Valley Unlimited, Hart Biologicals have also had support from UK Steel Enterprise, the North East Chamber of Commerce and UKTI to bring its expansion plan to fruition.
